  3.           Help with the ONLINE/OFFLINE indicator being stuck

  6. Problem:  When I start up Qmodem, the Online/Offline indicator in the
  7.           status line always says ONLINE?  Why?
  8.  
  9. Answer :  The modem is sending a signal back to Qmodem saying that it
  10.           is connected to another computer.  On Hayes 2400 modems and
  11.           clones that use the '&' (ampersand) extended commands, there
  12.           is usually a command that controls the CD (carrier detect)
  13.           signal.  The default mode (unfortunately) is for the CD to
  14.           be on all the time.  This makes Qmodem think it is ONLINE.
  15.           To make things right, send the following command to your
  16.           modem:
  17.                        AT&C1
  18.  
  19.           You will have to check your modem manual to verify this
  20.           command in case it is not quite 100% Hayes compatible.

  22.           Modems this is know to cure:

  24.               Hayes 2400 (Internal/External)
  25.  
  26.           Some modems, as in the case of the Courier HST from
  27.           USRobotics has a switch which by default has Carrier forced
  28.           true.  Switch number 6 is DOWN from the factory and must be
  29.           set to UP to work correctly.  Running the HST15.SCR will
  30.           bring this fact to light.
